Magnesium is one of the world‘s most important industrial metals. Hardie Pacific is currently focused on two separate magnesium deposits in Southland, New Zealand. The region has a strong mining and mineral processing history, supported by low-cost hydro and wind power, a pro-mining local government and easy access to the modern Bluff deep-water port.
Southland’s extensive ultramafic rock formations, covering approximately 665 km², hosts magnesium together with associated nickel, copper and chromium. These projects are well positioned to support the diversification of future magnesium supply.
Hardie Pacific has spent more than a decade evaluating ultramafic systems throughout New Zealand. This work includes geological mapping, exploration, resource evaluation, drilling and metallurgical laboratory research undertaken in collaboration with leading international laboratories and institutions.
